Natural Homemade Sunscreen

It’s that time of year when we are outside more and we need to protect our skin from the harmful rays of the sun. This was always a dilemma for me. What is worse? the UV rays on my bare skin or the chemicals in the sunscreen? I opted for the no sunburn route but always hated the fact that I was slathering parabens and chemicals all over my kids bodies. I was thrilled when I discovered that I could make a natural sunscreen and whatever SPF I wanted by simply adding more zinc.

Natural Sunscreen – Approx. 30 SPF

½ oz. beeswax

2 oz. shea butter

2 oz. coco oil

3 Tbsp non-nano zinc

Melt all ingredients together.

Pour into an empty deodorant container and let harden

Apply by rubbing over the skin.

For a higher SPF simply add more Zinc.  Each Tbsp of zinc adds 10 SPF

  1. Hi JoAnne
Just wondering where would you find the non nano zinc? Is this in powder form?
    Thankyou for the recipe ☺
