Tomato Sauce With Essential Oils

This is a new take on my original JoAnnes Spaghetti Sauce I wanted to try my hand at experimenting with cooking with essential oils.  I have found that essential oils have a longer shelf life than fresh or dried herbs and spices. Essential oils may seem more costly at initial purchase but will they prove to be more cost effective over time. Please refer to my post on tips and safety for cooking with essential oils to educate yourself before you begin to experiment.

  • 1 large can crushed tomatoes (20oz.)
  • 1 can tomato paste 7oz.
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 1/4 cup diced green peppers
  • 1/4 cup diced red peppers
  • 1 tsp dried parsley leaves
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 1 drop doTERRA Oregano essential oil
  • 1 drop doTERRA Black pepper essential oil
  • 1-2 drops doTERRA Basil essential oil
  • 1-2 drops doTERRA Thyme essential oil

1 lb ground beef or chicken. Browned.

Combine all ingredients except to the essential oils in a large saucepan over medium heat. Let simmer for an hour.  Just before serving add the essential oils. Add the cooked ground meat to the sauce.  Serve over cooked spaghetti squash or pasta.

Important note: If you are going to use essential oils for cooking please make sure that they are a food grade essential oil. 95% of essential oils that are out there are not ingestible. They are not 100% pure and contain fillers and synthetic components that would be dangerous to ingest.  doTERRA essential oils are one of the few essential oils that have been passed by the US FDA to be safe for consumption,
